Vége a vizsgáknak, no és mit is jelent ez? Természetesen bulit. Minden vizsgaidőszak végeztével összegyűlünk a csoporttársaimmal valakinél és jó nagy majrét csapunk! Tegnap Melanie-nél kezdtük a bemelegítést. Ő eredetileg egy cserediák Ízlandról, de sikerült elintéznie hogy végig járhassa velünk a mester képzést. Mivel eredetileg a volt Jugoszláviában született és szerb nemzetiségű, különösen közel áll a szívemhez! Borzasztóan vicces és okos lány, mindamellett egy igazi harcos. Kristina, egy másik csoporttársam a Boszniai térségben született. Ők is a háború miatt váltottak országot és állampolgárságot. De nemzetiséget nem. Azt mondja ez sosem fog megtörténni és hogy ő egy ízig-vérig boszanac (boszniai) lány. Natalia egy horvát cserediák, aki sajnos már visszament Zágrábba, csak az első két szemeszeterre jött.
Sokszor láttam ezt a három lányt együtt, egyszerűen lehengerőlek! Csak karattyoltak és karattyoltak szerbül, vagy horvátul (a kettő gyakorlatilag egy és ugyan az) és valahogy sosem jött fel köztük hogy ki a szerb, ki a horvát, vagy boszanac. Kérdem én, hol van itt az utálat, amiről mindenki beszél? Melanie úgy döntött, hogy a szakdolgozatát a volt Jugoszlávia területén elkövetett, a nemzetközi humanitárius jogot súlyosan sértő cselekményekért felelős személyek megbüntetésére felállított Nemzetközi Törvényszékről fogja írni, és a kutatásának az lesz a célja hogy megállapítsa, vajon valóban igazságot szolgáltattak-e ott? Na persze ez durván kiverte a biztosítékot a professzornál, de talán mostanra már lenyugodott... :)

I am finally done with my exams, and this means party time! It has become sort of a tradition by now that we get together with my classmates from the faculty for a dinner and some drinka once we passed all exams. Yesterday, it was Melanie who threw the party. Originally, she is an exchange from Iceland but managed to convince the LLM office to be admitted to the program for the whole term. Since she was born in the former Yugoslavia, and has Serbian nationality, she is really special for me! ( I was born close to the country border thus have many friends from that area, even speak a bit of Serbian)
She is extremely intelligent, wise -on the contrary to her age-, funny ... and of course a real fighter who never gives up! My other classmate, Kristina was born in Bosnia and Hercegovina, and like Melanie, she moved away from her home when the war started. It is since 10 years now, that she has applied for the Dutch citizenship, but still introduces herself as a Dutch, holding Bosnian nationality. This is what I highly appreciate about her: she integrated herself into the Dutch system, and coops with things really well, but she does not forgot where she is from. She often says that she is just a bosanac (Bosnian) gall, and this is something, what will never change. Natalia is a Croatian exchange student, unfortunately has already returned to her home university in Zagreb, Croatia. She is also a cheerful girl, performing well in the classes and sharing great ideas.
I often saw these 3 girls, chatting and sitting together, and I am telling you they all looked so happy and contend with everything. They spoke Serbian or Croatian ( these 2 languages are basically the same) and interestingly enough, the war of the former Yugoslavia-where they were supposed to be treated as enemies- was never an issue between the 3 of them. They were just these 3 girls, living in peace with each other, regardless the concerns of their nationality and that was as simple as that.
Recently, Melanie decided to write her thesis on the International Criminal Tribunal for the Formal Yugoslavia, and her research question is whether ICTY could bring justice to all former Yugoslavian countries? Of course, our program director didn't really greet the idea, but lets just hope that she has calmed down by now:)
anyways, I am looking forward to reading her paper...
