Üdvözlet a 16 fokos Houstonból! Tegnap egy jó kis 11 órás repülőút után megérkeztem Houstonba. Egy önkéntes várt rám, aki elvitt az egyetemre, segített becsekkolni a szobámba és még vásárolni is elvitt. Ez nem csak azért volt jó, mert megspóroltam egy baromi drága taxit, hanem azért nem hagytak egyedül az intézkedéssel. A koleszba elvileg nem lehet bejelentkezni a hétvégén, ezért le kellett hívni egy aszisztenst, elmagyarázni hogy mi merre meddig... Megnyugtató érzés volt, hogy volt velem valaki, aki segített volna ha baj van. Szerencsémre egy másik Fulbright-os lány felajánlotta hogy amennyiben nem jutok be a szobámba akár nála is alhatok, így az utcán alvás már nem fenyegetett.
Az egyetem területe egyébként hatalmas, ekkorát még nem láttam... Minden van amit szeretnél, atlétikai pálya, hatalmas sport centrum, kiállító terem, gyorséttermek, kávézók, menza... Én a Cullen Oaks-ban lakom, itt egy kb 60 nm-es lakást osztok meg egy nigériai lánnyal. Van egy nagy konyha és nappali, mindkettőnknek külön hálószoba és mellé fürdő. Megmondom őszintén, nagy megkönnyebbülés hogy megvan a saját kis vackom és nem kell osztozkodni a fürdőn, na és hogy a konyhában van mosogatógép! Ma minden zárva, mert Martin Luther King napja van, így holnap kezdek a professzornál. Kicsit izgulok is.
Ha kimerészkedem, majd csinálok ám képeket is. De azért most még jó egy kicsit itt, biztonságban a szobámban! :)

Grettings from the 16 Celsius! After a 11 hour flight I arrived in Houston yesterday. A volunteer waited for me at the airport. She took me to the campus by car, helped with the check-in and the groceries. Thanks to her I did not have to spend a fortune on taxi, also was not left alone with the check in process. My situation was a bit complicated given that the campus office was closed and we had to ask an RA to help with the paperwork and let me into my room. Thanks Lord, another Fulbright student offered her help in case of an unsuccessful check in, so I did not have to consider sleeping on the street at night:)
The university is enormous, I have never seen such a place before. They have everything you need, recreation center, exhibition center, fast food restaurants, cafes and residential restaurants where you can subscribe for a meal plan. I live in Cullen Oaks, I share an approximately 60 sm apartment with a girl from Nigeria. We have a spacious living room with an opened kitchen, and 2 bedrooms with their own bathrooms! I am so glad that I have my own little living space and I do not have to share the bathroom with somebody else. And the most important... we have a dishwasher in the kitchen- no more fights over dirty dishes:)
Today is a Martin Luter King day, therefore everything is closed. I will start the research tomorrow and to be honest, I am a bit excited... I will take some photos of the place for you, I promise. But for now... I would like to stay here a bit longer, in the safe inside :)
See, I do my best to post everything in English as well... The only question is when I am going to start posting in Dutch?:)
I'm so glad you arrived safe and sound!! :-) I have been to Houston many, many times and I hope you have a lovely time exploring it. :-) Your living situation sounds perfect. How wonderful to have your own space. :-)
